Brett was born on Wiradjuri country in Parkes District Hospital in 1974. Parkes is a town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. Adopted at 2 months old by Wally & Jann Groves, the young family began their life adventure on Dharug country in the Western Suburbs of Sydney. Brett moved to Gadigal land, Sydney at a young age where he spent most of his young adult life exploring the wonders the world had to offer.  Brett returned to Dharug land, the Blue Mountains where he purchased his first home. Brett created Bilingarra, Indigenous Art & Culture which is on Dharug and Gundungurra land and he has since returned home to live on Wiradjuri country.

Story: The roads travelled by the cyclists are traditionally known as Song Lines. The length of a song would be the length of a Song Line. The Song Line in this artwork is depicted in the curved white line and the black dots represent the significant land marks along the way to each rider. Beneath the Song Line are circular patterns inspired by the shapes of Echidna Quills & Qandong Seeds, a subtle reminder of the abundance of the land since Dream Time. The circular shapes also represent the energy & good health exercise feeds our minds. The Message Stick traditionally carried when entering a nation to tell of your intention, (represented by the white oval shape) provides a sign of respect, that the rider enters the nation with all mobs good health in mind, family are symbolised with 4 people (the U shapes) each person has a marking on the arm, traditionally these markings would notate a story of family or place, in this instance the link is to notate a family member or friend the cyclist is riding for.

Paper: Print is produced on Canson 310gsm photo rag paper with 12-colour pigment ink.
